It was the ash that choked me up, so much I couldn't even think about a party, a politician, OR getting up as high as possible due to the lava. I just wanted to get down, way down, and maybe even breathe normally. We went opposite directions for a while. I think I saw you up there though, and will join you asap, because you're cute when you do hash, I'm very through with the ash, and I want a chance to drive that truck-thing.
btw - the comment above isn't helpful or really sensical - so i'll just say i liked the writing as much as usual and the illustrations even more
I'm new the guy, so clearly I have a lot to catch up on. But I love the voice and tone of this piece. In a strange way it almost reminds a bit of the Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir. Hopefully you take that as a compliment. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to reading more!
Definitely the nonlinearity, but also there's a similar kind of crass nonchalance in the tone. A sense of something sinister and foreboding below teh surface juxtaposed with teh ambivalence of the protagonist. And teh way the narration is conversational and informal.

Interesting! I've not read those books, though Gideon the Ninth has been on my pile forever. What is it that feels similar? Is it the nonlinearity?
